With television came indoctrination of revision of history and trivialisation of catastrophic news such as wars, flood victims etc intertwined with consumer adverts every two or three minutes. "Advertising is tax deductible, so we all pay for the privilege of being manipulated and controlled."

And also it gave the media corporations the opportunity to fill up your spare time after work with trivial pursuit programs like X-factor, big brother, Star Academy etc that keep the brain numb and away from thinking. Then by careful control and selection of news and information came the mind control of the public. There are generations that do not know anything beyond what the TV has told them since only a very small percentage read books and newspapers or consult other sources of information. They think like the tube, they dress like the tube and behave like the tube…

But this was not enough for the Corporations.

Then came internet and with it the possibility to trace all your moves on the internet and from it determine your thinking patterns. Well, aside from commercial aspects to the corporations on how to maximize their profits out of your ever increasing use of internet, and how to target you for their goods, we also witnessed recently regulations to police your thoughts. This is generally a new development. In the past even under torture it was not always possible to see what the victim thinks but now by following your every move it is possible to create a pattern of your thinking and from it determine what you think about.

Now comes RFID and with it the possibility to track your every physical move on this planet. Now it is possible to condition you, to verify your thoughts and track you down on this planet wherever you may be...Apply this technology to your work and possibilities of managerial abuse are endless considering how marginalised you have become.

Some of us consider this an intrusion into our privacy and a violation of our Human Rights…

While some argue that INTRUSION INTO YOUR PRIVACY IS SECURITY. Does not it smack of George Orwell's 1984 syndrome? "War is peace, Freedom is slavery, Ignorance is strength".

I wish I could agree with those who suggest the naivety of use of RFID by our employer. Needless to say that there are a number of other technologies that could have been used equally to work out if you are at work or not and when but they choose RFID out of so many other better possibilities knowing perfectly well its privacy and legal issues. Even the Data Protection Officer pointed out problems with it but he was also ignored.

Well in the face of so many ethical issues the personnel seem are having with their employer, while respecting their point of view, I sadly decline to subscribe to it. Let us examine some reasons as to why I may disagree:

1. Remember: V-P Kinnock told us that the so-called "special levy" would go towards improving childcare facilities and other welfare benefits for staff. Once it had been agreed by certain gullible OSP we were told it simply goes back into the pot. Not a special levy then, but a PAY CUT.

2. Remember: our pension contributions are being stolen from us. And also "local Staff" get much lesser pension than they are due.

3. Our employer practices overcrowding of the crèche and Day-care centre by more than 50% whilst officials are still paying more net than any other European citizens for these services (those who pay more gross get tax relief)

4. Our employer hides behind Institutional immunity to national law when it engages staff at below the legal minimum wage in Luxembourg.

5. Our employer obliges staff to work in buildings (eg JMO) that do not meet Health & Safety standards according to German law.

6. Our employer ignores the decisions of the Civil service Tribunal when appointing Directors and Director-Generals?. (It was condemned by the Tribunal of First Instance (cases T-437/04 and T-441/04) for illegally favouring the promotion of two Cabinet members to the disadvantage of two colleagues in the DGs).

7. Our employer disregards the social dialogue by ignoring the points of views of even the representative unions (casing example was our recent CDR II that was condemned by all trade unions. )

8. Marginalizing parts of Staff by not allowing them even to participate in the social dialogue. (Casing examples: ODLs, EDLs, IT Staff in delegations where RELEX K9 has stated in their case that " involvement and approval of Trade unions is not needed because living conditions or rights and obligations are not modified", …)

9. By showing inconsistencies with regards to Open Source when it states that Open Source is to be promoted across Europe, fines Microsoft for its violations and then specifies internally for its own personnel the adherence and use of Microsoft software.

10. By specifying in the Robert Madelin debate and EuReforme groups website that new candidates have to be tested for their ethical points of view. Just how and on what basis this is going to be tested is another issue. Does not that smack of Spanish Inquisition to you.

11. By ignoring the court decision to pay the other parties legal costs (case T 58/05, 11/7/2007)

12. Remember despite "RCAM's avis 44/2006" agreed by the administration and personnel in autumn, in January 2007 Administration changed its mind and revised many figures down on payments even though our medical insurance account has loads of money in it. Unfortunately that only met with silent and conformant response by major unions. They simply took the rest of the money and put it back in the general budget. Was not that daylight rubbery of your Rights?

13. Remember the Certification process, where university qualified personnel are now at a disadvantage to go through. (references 1, 2)

Well where we go from here is all up to you. It is difficult to change the mindset of the adult mind once it is already conditioned but all SID needs to say is your Human Rights are up for sale.
